Calculate real ROI before you invest

Not every purchase from a member should count as 'loyalty-driven'. That's the difference between a good and a bad program.

The most common math error is taking total member revenue and calling it "loyalty revenue." Wrong — those customers would have bought anyway. Loyalty ROI is the incremental revenue, not the total.

How to compute it correctly

  1. Measure your repeat purchase rate during a control period (3 months pre-launch).
  2. Launch the program and measure the same metric for 3 months.
  3. Delta × average basket = incremental revenue.
  4. Subtract costs (rewards redeemed + platform fee + campaigns).
  5. What's left is your real ROI.
